SLS was established 25 years ago by families of Faith, Redeemer, and Trinity Lutheran Churches.  These families wanted to see Lutheran education provided to the then three Springfield area Lutheran Churches.  These families worked with Faith Lutheran, Trinity Lutheran and Redeemer Lutheran Churches to make this dream a reality.  The first day of classes at SLS was September 3, 1984.  That first year 36  students made up the classes in kindergarten to 4th grade.  Mr. Ron Merritt accepted SLS's call to be their first teacher/principal.  Mr. Paul Baker accepted the call to be principal in 1998.

SLS has been blessed by our Lord and continues to minister to our current enrollment of 220 students in 12 classrooms.  Over the years Faith and Trinity asked to be removed from the school association and the school association was dissolved.  The school became a single parish school and an important part of Redeemer's ministry family in May of 2001.  SLS has many children from Redeemer and the other area Lutheran Churches of River of Life, Trinity, and Faith.  SLS also has many non-Lutheran students from many area churches and faiths.  This whole group of students and their families make up our school family.

SLS has classes for three year olds to eighth grade students.  Our school has a rigorous academic program and numerous support activities to provide our students a well rounded education.  Our students have opportunities in sports and music.  Before and after school care is provided by our extended care program.  Students may arrive as early as 6:30 AM and will be cared for until 6 PM in the evening.  Upon graduation, our eighth grade students attend many different high school in our Springfield community from Kickapoo and Glendale High Schools to Springfield Catholic.  Many students also attend high school in surrounding communities like Nixa and Rogersville.

Redeemer/Springfield Lutheran  is guided by a Redeemer Church Committee called the School Committee.  This committee is given the task of oversight and encouragement of the school ministry.  This committee meets at least once a month to plan, review, encourage, evaluate and support the many aspects of the school ministry.   Mr. Al Michel is the chairman of this committee and he is eager to commuciates with people regarding the growth and future of SLS educational ministry.

Beginning in the fall of 2006 a preschool program was begun at the Redeemer Nixa Campus.  This class has both three and four year old students.  Before and after school Extended Care is also provided for these students in Nixa from 7 AM to 5:30 PM.

SLS is all about teaching children about their Savior and His world.  We daily learn about the love of Jesus, and His forgiveness in our lives.  We strive to give children and their families a safe and secure environment to allow for personal spiritual growth and academic success in all areas of studies and the arts.
